College students are unable to cook cheap, healthy meals to eat ever day because they have little time between classes, studying, work, and extracurriculars.

Interview # 1: Jacob Clark: https://soundcloud.com/sbrinkerhoff/voice-011

- Jake's "What": Finally cooks for himself after 4 years of schooling. The hardest part for him is dinner, and dealing with the dishes involved and thinking of new meals to make.
- Jake's "Why": College kids may not know how to cook and are probably too lazy to cook. Also, a lot of college students use their parents's money when they go out to eat, so the price factor wouldn't be an issue.

Sarah,
ReplyDeleteI share a lot of similarities with Interview 2, Matthew Craighead. The difference being I'm 34 and a lot more health conscious than I was in my 20's. Also I noticed he said he is interested in losing weight and focusing on what he puts in his body. I think part of the solution would be educating younger kids about the benefits of eating healthy (physical and mental) and as he said it's not as expensive as people think to eat healthy. Education about the time and expense required to break down current myths would be a big help towards achieving your goal.
Sarah,
ReplyDeleteThe idea is perfect. As a student I hate spending time cooking and preparing meals after a long, busy day. Having some type of healthy options for quick food or pre-prepared foods is a fantastic idea. The biggest concern would be price. There are things like this out there already, but it can be so pricy. IF you could find a way to make this affordable and cheer than the rest of the competition, you'd have yourself a real winner!
hey sarah! I think this idea is so relatable to a majority of college students. Everyone tries their best to be conscious of what they put inside their bodies, but when it comes to convenience, people usually end up eating fast and unhealthy meals. There are competitors out there that will deliver healthy food to your door every day of the week and for every meal. The only issue with this is the high price that usually comes with it.
ReplyDeletevery relatable idea! I too struggle with this. Finding low price recipes is a struggle because I want to eat well but not spend a lot. I know quite a few people who are similar to Jareb becuase they cannot afford to eat better. I think UF is contributing to this problem because they have to many fast food options on campus, but many of them are unhealthy. Even Subway isn't that healthy because of the meats, sauces, and unfresh ingredients. I think better options for students on campus could help with this problem.
ReplyDeleteSarah,
ReplyDeleteI think you idea is feasible for a section of college students. However, everyone has a choice on rather to eat healthy or not, and they can make it apart of their daily routine to pack snacks and lunches to bring to campus, while maintaining a busy schedule. I believe it is more expensive over a monthly basis to eat out, rather than go grocery shopping weekly. College students do not have to necessarily eat organic food to eat healthy because there are cheaper alternatives than fast food. Overall, I agree with Brian that there needs to be more education and awareness about healthy eating.
Hey Sarah,
ReplyDeleteI think you have a really great idea here. Eating healthy can get really expensive, and after a while it can be hard to come up with new meals to make. I definitely think that there is potential here but I agree with Matt in that you would have to find a new way to make healthy food affordable due to the other products and services that are already out there. Great job with your interviews!
Sarah,
ReplyDeleteI am doing something similar. I think you got some really outstanding feedback in both the interviews, as well as other comments above me. This is truly one of the most frustrating issues I deal with and I hope numerous solutions are available soon. This market has limitless potential, as I also believe most fast food restaurants will likely not exist as competition in the somewhat near future. I look forward to seeing what you come up with!
Hey Sarah,
ReplyDeleteThis is a problem that almost every student deal with yet, there has been little done about it! The truth is, there is not many healthy, quick options available. My hypothesis was similar and called for a fresh, health fast-food type of restaurant. I feel that everyone wants to eat healthy, but many people do not have the time or money to do so. Also you did a great job of connecting with your interviewees. Great post!
